Thanks for you comments on Benjamin Mountfort. It's not quite finished yet and I was looking for someone from NZ, as I wanted it checked over for obvious mistakes (I've never been there). So feel free to make any contribution or correction. Regards Giano 08:55, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi, encouraged by you opinion I have finished Benjamin Mountfort and placed him here [1] perhaps you might like to vote, one way of the other. It would be nice to see something about NZ culture on the front page instead of European for a change.Giano 09:35, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the vote, pity you've only been there once, we tend to forget/not realsise how big the NZ is over here! It would be nice to see it in the main page. Giano 07:13, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Academic heraldry of NZ

[edit]

Nice job on the emblazons you've added to List of academic coats of arms. I should start playing with Inkscape myself. Did you mean to remove UNZ here when you added VUW?

Incidentally, "a book of the same, edged and indexed proper" had me for a bit as well. I'd blazon that "a book edged and indexed all proper" myself since a book proper is argent anyhow, so I'd just chalk it up to a mid-19th-century herald being particularly specific. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the book is blazoned argent instead of proper to keep the pages blank, but that seems like an unreliable way to do that anyhow.

(Also something about the VUW one was bugging me a bit so I poked around some -- FWIW, the blazon on [2] has the estoilles argent, not gules fimbriated argent.) — mendel 16:30, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Silver stars -- I was only going by the stained glass window pic at http://www.winzurf.co.nz/bruce/vuw/page1.htm, I guess I was a bit lazy :D But the blazon isn't official anyway, so I don't think it'll be of great importance. I lost the original svg for the shield becuase the thing crashed after I exported to png, silly me. But if I do get around to doing Vic Uni again I'll make sure I do one with estoilles argent.

As for UNZ, I didn't know I deleted the entry! I think it was just some Victorian pedantry creeping in with the silver book.

I have exams this week, but the shields for the other UNZ colleges will be at the top of my projects list, except for the two colleges which are now high schools -- there would be no place to put them!

Shields

[edit]

Nice work! By the way, I think you can upload SVG images now, so that may be worth a try... the only thing that I haven't worked out yet is a good way of cropping the page in inkscape so that it fits the shield exactly. Lupin|talk|popups 12:10, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What about changing the paper size? --Flominator 22:59, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, probably... my inkscape expertise (such as it was) has atrophied through lack of use now, so I probably won't touch these files in the near future. Thanks for the tip, though! Lupin|talk|popups 02:07, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
