How did Clinton appoint him ambassador to the U.K. if he died in 1971? jengod 23:46, Sep 15, 2004 (UTC)

I'm sorry. I was called away and was not finished editing the stub. I didn't want to lose my work so I saved it. I used the Dean Acheson bio as a template (Acheson died in 1971). Judging by the history I must not have been logged on at the time.--Wcrowe 01:28, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

It would be interesting to me to find out whether Crowe was the first retired Chairman JCS (or retired general/flag officer) to publicly endorse a candidate for president. I'd also be interested in learning his motives regarding the endorsement as well as if there was any quid pro quo wrt his appointment to the ambassadorship. Bsirvine 20:27, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

He is not a "former" Admiral: he is a "retired" Admiral.

A Sailor would still address him as "Admiral Crowe." LTUSN 11:44, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is customary to call retired (not just former) military officers and non-commissioned officers by their previous title. Colin Powell is often called "General Powell" by the press, and after Dwight D. Eisenhower left the presidency, he preferred to be called "General". --rogerd 16:34, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Awards

[edit]

The awards look gooned up. How did he earn 7 Air medals as a submarine officer? 13:10, 12 December 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.167.170.19 (talk) In his picture as a 4 star admiral, he is not wearing any Air Medal ribbons. Not likely that this submarine officer had any Air Medals. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.134.240.206 (talk) 19:35, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Citation Needed

[edit]

The recent addition by Mrdowntownla screams out for a citation. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the Bush administration (or ANY administration in the last 20 years, for that matter), but I hate to see politically-motivated hearsay passed off as the truth no matter what the subject. If a citation is not provided within the next couple of days, I will remove this edit. The Dogfather 15:09, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
