Mary Jackson
Mary Jackson (1921–2005) was an American mathematician and aerospace engineer at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and its successor, NASA. She worked at Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, for most of her career. She started as a computer at the segregated West Area Computing division in 1951. In 1958, after taking engineering classes, she became NASA's first black female engineer. Jackson had earned the most senior engineering title available by 1979 and realized she could not earn further promotions without becoming a supervisor. She accepted a demotion to become a manager of both NASA's federal women's program and the affirmative action program. Her work sought to influence the career paths of women in science, engineering, and mathematics positions at NASA. Jackson is one of the leading characters in the 2016 book Hidden Figures and one of the three protagonists in the book's film adaptation, released the same year. This NASA photograph of Jackson was taken in 1979.Photograph credit: NASA; restored by Adam Cuerden

Alex Rider

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Alex Rider, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Alex Rider. Home Economics (Junior Cert)

[edit]

It the stub article Home Economics (Junior Cert), you indicated in your edit of 17 October 2004 that "The course is similar to other Home Economics courses but with some differences." What are the differences, and why are they notable? Why does this deserve article status? Why should it not be a paragraph under Ireland in the main Home Economics article? Note, after four years this article is still a stub. --Bejnar (talk) 22:19, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Undeletion

[edit]

Regardless of the merits of the article, please be aware that no administrator can undelete any article that was deleted per BLP, or BLP1E for that matter, without an explicit consensus to do so: Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Badlydrawnjeff. Just so you know, as you're likely to get a fair bit of stick for this, I reckon. Daniel (talk) 02:34, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BLP undeletion

[edit]

Please, don't ever restore any article deleted under WP:BLP by another administrator without prior discussion and consensus, as you did here. Let's try to avoid wheel wars. Thank you. Jehochman Talk 02:36, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Deer on golf course.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Deer on golf course.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 04:26, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Prisoners and hats puzzle until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Prisoners and hats puzzle survived the deletion discussion, however your famous diagram has disappeared from the page. In place of it is a linked diagram, which I find less satisfactory (because linked rather than shown on page). I couldn't find where your diagram was deleted by going back through the history. Assuming that your diagram appeared directly on the page, could you please place it back on the page? Centrepull (talk) 00:06, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
