This was the first round of the quiz held at the First Annual UK Wikipedia Meetup.
Match these statements to the user. Each comes from someone's user page.
- One of the things that Wikipedia demonstrates amazingly well, as people have noted, is the power of collaborative journalism; our articles on breaking news events tend to become very good, very quickly.
- I have been employed in the past as a technical writer, and have always been involved in quality control and editing, so I'm sort of addicted to editing. If you see me tinkering with your articles, please don't get upset.
- I'm interested in how to help new users enter the community. To that end, I'm a member of the welcoming committee, whose page I created. I later started Wikipedia:New user log as a page for new users to introduce themselves to the community. I also created the Tutorial and wrote much of its original content.
- Everybody has a few items they feel passionate about. Mine is "correct terminology" in articles, especially the titles. Scientific terminology often leads to confusion when it falls into the wrong hands.
- I'm not a lawyer. I've been tracking the evolution of US law relating to online communities and involved in managing them and applying copyright law in practice since about 1994. Please don't hesitate to ask me to explain why I write what I write about any legal matter.
- Up until roughly September 2003, I mostly did editing. Then I decided to cut back my editing and do mostly programming, because there is a great shortage of people doing development and system administration for Wikipedia.
- Since joining Wiki in November 2002, I have written primarily though not exclusively on Irish affairs, both political and historical. I have however broadened to cover a wide range of areas, from Papal Tiaras to Communist state, Blessed Virgin Mary to Oral sex.
- I am a Canadian and a Taiwanese guy who is proud to have two places to call home. I am a Han, which, among other things, means that my ancestors were born in Mainland China, specifically, China proper.
- I am from Tirana, Albania, and if you don't know what pronoun to use when referring to me, I am a guy. And no, I am not a dwarf
- I got stuck in my brain, years ago, the idea that there's something wrong about modern English singling out the first-person singular pronoun to be spelled with a capital letter. So i spell it without the capital. If you follow my example, native speakers will just figure you're ignorant of the basics, or flagrantly casual.
- I have a PhD in history from the University of Melbourne. I have been a gay rights activist and journalist for many years. I am currently working as an advisor to a Member of Parliament and freelance writer on various subjects.
- I currently live in Brooklyn and work in a NYC museum developing educational projects and curricula. In the past, I have worked overseas in various media, including print, film, and television. In fact, I still do some odd film work, which I enjoy immensely.
- I have been an administrator since September 2, 2003. First you get the admin status, then you get the power, then you get the women...right?
- Copyediting random Wikipedia articles has lately joined coffee and cigarettes in my morning ritual to get my brain in gear. Evenings, I sometimes work on new articles, expanding stubs, or "translation."
