Tone

[edit]

Great to see an article on such a local item of interest; notable by size alone, and importance in community. This article should be revised to eliminate subjective tone ("our school"). Dan4J 08:36, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The last major edit should just be reverted. It added quite a bit of material but its tone and bloviation makes it pretty difficult to convert to a non-pov. I was going to do it but just checking if anyone disagrees. MarsRover 05:38, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism of Mater Dei Page

[edit]

Watch for major vandalism, just fixed it.

The need to vandalize this school website says droves about the offenders. The Truth Will Set You Free 00:37, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

No, I think that is says more about the school and the years of abuse that the children attending that school had to deal with.

How many children need to be abused before action is taken? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.172.80.30 (talk) 20:16, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting that the above comment is made by a faceless coward...Truth of the matter is MD and the Diocese of OC paid MILLIONS of dollars to make atonement for crimes perpetrated decades ago...The vandalism is perpetrated by people who could care less about the victims...They only care to besmirch the reputation of a fine institution for their own evil jealousy --The Truth Will Set You Free 21:05, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

How very nice of you to call me names. I am hardly a faceless coward (you'll notice I have signed this post with MY ACTUAL NAME, unlike you who only signed with your screen name) -- I just did not take the time to sign in the day I added a comment. So now that I have signed in, let me say this: MONEY WILL NOT MAKE THINGS RIGHT! ALL OF THE MONEY IN THE WORLD CANNOT UNDO THE DAMAGE THAT HAS BEEN DONE AT MATER DEI!! Mater Dei is a joke and so is your screen name. The truth is after decades of abuse, Mater Dei is lucky is hasn't been shut down.

I don't know what the "vandalism" issues were, but I was a little surprised that this page contained NOTHING about the sexual abuse issues. I'm a member of the class of 1985 and have no personal knowledge of what was going on, but I have to believe this stuff is pretty easily verifiable with reliable source. The 80s and 90s weren't that long ago, and even black eyes are part of history. It shouldn't be ignored. Zddoodah (talk) 17:00, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mater Dei More than Sports

[edit]

It would be nice if the article were more objective. There is actually some learning going on at Mater Dei. It's not all about sports. I believe the school has placed well in academic ratings as well as sweat. It is odd that no mention of the school's liability in the child sex scandal is mentioned.

Perhaps someone other than an offical of the MD Athletic Department might edit the article.

It would be nice if the official at least could add a list of principals.

Michael Harris abuse

[edit]

My previous posting was removed, as it was considere dunreliable. As a member of the class of 1983, I know quite well of the sex abuse scandal and the crminal behavoir of the pricipal at the time Michael A. Harris. Maybe it would be good to include this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_abuse_scandal_in_the_Catholic_diocese_of_Orange on this page, so that a more complete story of MDHS emerges. Does this qualify as a legitimate and verifiable source? Afterall, Wikipedia has published it?

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.88.120.4 (talk) 23:08, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Without that context it looked suspicious- thanks for the link. Wikipedia is not a resource in itself, and allegations have to be carefully discussed for legal and ethical reasons, but here's the cite that the other Wikipedia page uses: Guccione, Jean (2005-01-04). "Orange Bishop to Apologize in Huge Abuse Settlement". Los Angeles Times. Retrieved 2009-04-08.. That's enough to keep it on the discussion page. tedder (talk) 23:14, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rivalry

[edit]

In response to Tedder's recent edit, Mater Dei and Servite have a rivalry spanning more than 50 years based largely on their parochial foundation and strong sports programs. Considering the following references, Servite should be listed as the primary rival for Mater Dei, and vice-versa. ESPN.com Rivals.com OCVarsity.com Los Angeles Times Fox Sports
