- Yes, it needs a lot, lot more. I can think of a lot of things and analysis to add given the research I did for all the desk articles I created (cabinets, beds, etc. kept whizzing by) but right now I am determined to at last finish putting in the references in these articles on desks after delaying for so long and getting distracted by military, space, and bibliographical articles and modifications. - Ugly (ugly!) dicdef substub vastly in need of improvement for what seems like an important topic considering its history, and even modern sports. Seems a very viable AOTW. —siroχo 07:13, Jul 26, 2004 (UTC)
- There's quite a bit of material at horse about riding, which could be moved to this article. By the way, I think "horse riding" is the international term; "horseback riding" is American in flavor. Gdr 09:24, 2004 Jul 26 (UTC)
- Well, policy would dictate that we go with whatever is most widely used; I get roughly the same # of google hits for either variation (1.04 million vs. 1.1 million). Thus, we go with the original usage, as per the Manual of Style.
- Note that Horseback riding seems to redirect to horse now. However my nomination still stands, since this should be expanded as an article in its own right. —siroχo 02:19, Jul 31, 2004 (UTC)

- Yeah, lots of related good content are already in Wikipedia. But this also means good content is easily accessible for merging and reorganizing to give Babylonia a makeover, and hopefully turn it into a nice 'featured article'. Two lines and 4 internal links are just too skimpy. -- PFHLai 10:00, 2004 Jul 22 (UTC)
- Considering the wiki is constructed using characters in part derived from Babylonian cuneiform symbols, and that Babylonia was for the most part located between the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers (the present day site of Iraq)I think it absolutely behooves us to flesh this one out. - This is a pretty basic topic. I don't know much about it, but I do know that it should be bigger than this. How do storms form? What kinds of damage do they do? How do people in different places deal with them? grendel|khan 08:02, 2004 Aug 4 (UTC)
- "Storm" is a very broad term. I think the best way to write a storm article is to make a comprehensive list of all storm types (dust storm, thunderstorm, hurricane, etc.), and link to each article. That's pretty much the direction the page is already headed. In any case, I don't think the Storm article is destined to be anything more than a well-organized disambig. --Benc 20:18, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- "A storm is a kind of severe weather" is not really an encyclopedia definition.
A definition of storm as in excess of weather to open the paragraph, and then as Benc suggests.

Alan Keyes (not a stub)

- JamesMLane 16:26, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Comments:
- This nomination blatantly violates the rule that nominated articles should be nonexistent or stubs. I nominate it anyway because Keyes is in a contested U.S. Senate race, and the article on his opponent, Barack Obama, is being featured. On Talk:Barack Obama, several people have expressed concern about the appearance of partisanship on the part of Wikipedia. I think it would be advisable for us to feature the article on Obama's opponent, and a period of intense review seems to be the best way to make sure it's worthy of being featured in its own right, not just for the sake of balance. JamesMLane 16:26, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- If you know it violates the guidelines, then why nominate it here? List it at peer review or FAC. - Taxman 19:02, Aug 18, 2004 (UTC)
- This is clearly not an appropriate article for AotW. From a quick skim of Alan Keyes, it looks close to being ready for Wikipedia:featured article candidates, so why not nominate it there instead? Alternatively, Wikipedia:peer review would give it some polish if it needs some. Barack Obama managed to get featured without being an AotW. (And before I am accused of partisanship, I am in the UK and know next to nothing about either of the gentlemen concerned: however, just because one of them has a featured article does not mean that the other has to as well.) -- ALoan (Talk) 17:43, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- The only expansion it needs is in the areas of his UN service, Maryland Senate runs, and possibly presidential runs. Unfortunately, these are the areas I'm least equipped to research, at least w/o finding a decent biography of him--and school starts soon, so I doubt I'd have time anyway. Anybody? - This article is pathetic, for a city probably more ruined than Baghdad. Nomination after seeing a program on BBC last night about it all. I know some of the details on Chechen war etc. are in other articles, but the city (if what remains can be called such) deserves a decent article. Zoney 14:50, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Having attempted to add to articles on similar cities in the region, such as Sukhumi and Tiraspol, I'd question how much we could find on this. I agree that it'd be an interesting topic, but I'm not sure that AOTW would be able to give it much help. On the other hand, this is one atrocious stub. Ambi 23:24, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- There's plenty more to be found - I managed to add a fair bit with just a couple of minutes research. Because of the war, there's much more information in English on Grozny than on other cities in the region. But as we've had two cities recently, I'm not voting for it just yet. - Now's the perfect time to work on Olympic articles, and this one would be a fun one. According to 2004 Summer Olympics#Mascot, every Olympics since the 1968 Winter Olympics has had a mascot. The current official mascots are Athena and Phevos, and they have drawn controversy from some who feel they disrespect Ancient Greek culture. There's even more colorful history out there, such as the unofficial but highly popular mascot of the 2000 Summer Olympics, Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat. Should be a fun article to collaborate on. • Benc • 01:05, 14 Aug 2004 (UTC)

- Not a stub, except in the sense that it lacks POV balance. It is deceptive by being overwhelmingly weighted to the biological POV of humans, without developing the common traditional and religious views of the word human. Tom 18:52, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Comments
- This article is not a stub, so I don't know if it's really eligible for AotW. Also, shouldn't culture be separated into its nations (eg Culture of Spain and Russia above)?
- No, there are cultural matters that transcend borders --[[User:OldakQuill|Oldak Quill]] 23:55, 29 Aug 2004 (UTC)
