[edit]This is no longer a stub, according to this:
A stub is a very short article, generally of one paragraph or less. Most stubs fail to cover all but the most trivial subjects completely. However, this does not mean the stub is not a legitimate article - it just needs to be expanded. Wikipedia:Find or fix a stub
Hence, it should no longer be listed as one. user: Gene Ward Smith
Exceptional role
[edit]According to the Mathematical Geneology Project, Frank Morely wrote no dissertation and his advisor is unknown. He had no advanced degree beyond the B.A. of Cambridge. Yet he produced 50 Ph.D. students, who in turn have 372 known descendants. This story evidently reflects something of the demand for his services at the time, and of his capacity to fill that expectation. No one ever called him on his credentials.Rgdboer (talk) 21:54, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
His 1933 book Inversive Geometry says he has Sc.D. from Cambridge. Two sources, two stories. Which is right ? Rgdboer (talk) 22:45, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
According to the R.C. Archibald reference posted today, Morley took leave from Haverford College 1897-8, and returned to Cambridge for a D.Sc. The Semicentennial History carries the weight of authority of an official American Mathematical Society publication.Rgdboer (talk) 21:00, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
