COTW
[edit]Would you be willing to support my nominee for WP:COTW. The article is Invasion which is an important term for military knowledge. The current article however isn't at the same standard as the term is in modern and historic warfare though. If you'll be willing to support, I'll be greatful. Infobox Former Country
[edit]Hi. I have had to revert the recent changes that you made to Infobox Former Country because it adversely effected its presentation (some alignments were messed up). - 52 Pickup 09:33, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing the template. Which page/browser had the problem? --Zigger «º» 13:14, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- I only looked through one or two entries - one of them was Weimar Republic - and the alignment of the grey date/flag bar at the top was skewed to one side before reverting your changes (I'm using Firefox). I can see what you were trying to do, but for some reason it just didn't work. No problem. - 52 Pickup 16:53, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Al-Hamed-1-July-2006.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Al-Hamed-1-July-2006.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:20, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
G'day NewSouthWikiWelshman
[edit]...and I mean 'welshman' in the most gender neutral way, of course...and I'm aware that not all of you guys are from NSW.. and I'm aware that this hasn't been the most smoothly written note in Wiki's history, but hey ho...slaps head, persuades voices in head to pipe down, and continues.... Fancy attending a meetup? - We've got some interested Chapter stuff to chat about, no doubt there may be some tales of Arabian Nights (or at least Egyptian conferences), and it just generally felt like it was about time..... head over here if you're interested.... do feel free to wiki-edit away in the usual fashion too if you've got any other ideas! cheers all, Privatemusings (talk) 07:25, 29 July 2008 (UTC)you've been spammed in this nature because you signed up as interested in being notified about this sort of thing.. hope that's ok!
A Sydney Meetup
[edit]G'day all - I'm dropping this note in to let you know that there's to be a Wiki Meetup the week after next, on Tuesday, 21st at 18:00 at The Paragon in Circular Quay. If you've ever thought about popping along to one of these, but haven't had the chance - now's the time! If you love the idea, but the time and / or place don't quite work for you, please do feel free to wiki edit away at the meetup page and I'm sure we can sort something out :-) Meetups are a great way to share wiki-thoughts, meet wiki-friends, and generally learn how to prefix all areas of your life with wiki- :-)
It's a very friendly bunch, and we're hoping to be able to formally collect membership fees and details for the Australian Chapter (did you know that we're the only current english speaking chapter? Join now for kudos and future bragging rights!) - as well as just generally have a good 'ol time. I look forward to seeing you there :-) best, Privatemusings (talk) 07:49, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Rollback Request
[edit]I have granted your rollback request. However, I want to caution you regarding its use. I found this edit earlier today where you reverted a good-faith edit that may be unsourced but is definitely not random (I fixed it). If you start using rollback like that, you'll find editors getting upset and it may quickly be removed. Some editors might not appreciate edit summaries like this one, but overall I see a good-faith editor with a long (if staggered) history and I'm assuming good faith.
In short: please be careful with rollback. Thanks for your contributions to the project. Keep up the good work and let me know if you have any questions! Frank | talk 16:08, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Largest Australian Cities template
[edit]Sorry, I'll try to be more careful next time. In the case of widening the template, you should probably re-add Brisbane, and maybe Perth if it fits, so it looks neater. --GarrieFerron 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, it's a good thing that someone's watching the pages! Okay, Brizzie's back, but Perth doesn't fit — that gallery format is just too “spaceful”. In regard to the edits, I should probably have done the changes in two steps to make it clearer to the rest of the world. --Zigger «º» 07:24, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
If you read the talk page of the template, which is where the discussion about changing it should have taken place, and not on individual user talk pages, you'll see why it was reverted. The template is set up for Australia, which is the only place it's used. Please continue any discussion there, with a note at Talk:Australia. --AussieLegend (talk) 04:36, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit]G'day all - I'm hoping that I might persuade you along to a Wiki christmas celebration / meetup on december 18th :-) - The meetup regulars are a friendly bunch, and we're very much hoping to get a few new folk along to chat about all things Wiki (and there are apparently some exciting things in the pipeline! Come along to find out a bit more ;-) - you can sign up here - and do feel free to edit that page with any more ideas or suggestions too :-)
Hope to see you there - I've heard a rumour that the first drink is on the highest placed Australian in the current arbcom elections.... Privatemusings (talk) 23:44, 4 December 2008 (UTC)ok, so I started that rumour too....
Possums - Opossums, categories
[edit]Hi Zigger - thanks for doing edits on Great Barrier island . However, there were a few that I have reverted. Possums aren't opossums, so please don't introduce more species to New Zealand, we already have enough trouble with those lacking the "o" ;-)
Also, categorisation like putting Great Barrier Island into "Copper mines" is not really appropriate. Its an island, not a copper mine. Maybe it could fit into a category like "Copper mining in NZ", but even that would be marginal - it wasn't exactly like the island has an extremely extensive history of it or anything...
Okay - no offense intended, just clarifying some things. Cheers and happy editing. Ingolfson (talk) 05:32, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Hacking on "circadian rhythm sleep disorder"
[edit]Looks like somebody's found a way to fake the source of a wikepedia edit; you noted on the talk page for my IP that (what I agree is) non-constructive editing was made in on 12/4/2008 which appeared to come from my IP...but this is my work computer and I'm quite sure no one else was on it 12/4/2008. Thanks for keeping vigilant eye, of course. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.29.227.226 (talk) 18:16, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi all, it's Meetup time again :-) - Hopefully you'll be up for meeting on April 22nd at about 6pm at The Paragon, a pub in Circular Quay. It'll be the usual round of drinks and chit chats, with no particular agenda, just some friendly faces, and a shared interest in Wiki stuff. Swine flu Epidemic
[edit]It is not beyond the realm of reality/possibility that this flu was released upon the Mexican population intentionally by some evil, international powermongers. We live in perilous, uncharted times. I've been meaning to do a little research but then will my sources be honest? just doing this research online, to try and find out if the first cases were, as it sounds, in Mexico. It isn't an insult to the Mexicans if it started there. AIDS did start in Africa and that was probably manufactured and forced on them, too.
The TIMING of this outbreak does seem suspicious to me. Ya know the old cliche "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is?" Well, this timing seems "too good to be true" for the EVIL ONES, as if this turns into pandemic it will serve those that HATE liberty and life, very well. it will serve those wishing to squash our freedoms AND our financial successes, VERY WELL.
(No wonder that when Princess Di died in a horrible auto accident, even the father of her boyfriend was convinced that conspiracy was involved. Diana had become very blatant about having an affair with one in the family of one of the queen's enemies, and if she had been pregnant by him it could have been a huge embarrassment and problem affecting the royal family's pride, so yes, her death did seem "such a lucky break" for the royals. Was it conspiracy? as if any of us can ever know?)--Michael (Talk) 05:32, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I prefer Hanlon's razor, and these corollaries: "don't assume stupidity when negligence/ignorance/disinterest are likely". I have no theory about the origin of the flu, and no reason to believe yours. Watch your back, there is a conspiracy to spread conspiracy theories and they might think you're the competition. --Zigger «º» :) Zigger «º» 05:56, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
- I do not combat between individuals, groups, nations. Endways, I heard a local 97 year old Sacramento gentleman speaking about the horrors of it on the radio. This is what prompted me to go searching. He was only 4 when he contracted it, but said the horrors of it were still so vivid in his mind he wanted to share with us all and let us know it can be very real, IF it gets out of control. Although, realizing how long ago it was, hopefully, we have come a long ways in medicine to battle it before it spreads so widely. He also said, the basics are very true that have been reiterated here...wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands!!--Michael (Talk) 06:24, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
Revert in Flu
[edit]I reverted your undo of my contributions. You can see it in the discussion page but courtesy drives me to comment on your talk page. I proposed the change in the discussion before I edited. No objections but also encouragement to edit the article. Most of the reasons I included within the discussion page. I would revert anyone who blanked contributions that were perfectly acceptable under WIKI guidelines. The interesting thing is that my block text is a good way to quote and make things stand out. With the way the article is going, it is hard to get it to "look good." So I didn't block text it this time. Again, all is explained in the discussion page. Cheers- BFritzen (talk) 12:16, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Apologies
[edit]Deepest apologies. The edit was deliberate but I only wanted to add North American influenza back which had been removed by someone without any discussion because they considered the World Organisation for Animal Health a 'peripheral organisation' and the name very uncommon (even tho a simple Google or Google shows is not the case). I must have had an edit conflict or edited an old version but not noticed Nil Einne (talk) 13:49, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
- I've had a look an all the edits have been integrated or reappeared (perhaps by you?). Ironically one of my edits disappeared and I noticed it had disappeared but thought I must have forgotten to save Nil Einne (talk) 13:53, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
- I've since restored two discovered lost edits. There is a third, but I was unsure of its relevance. --Zigger «º» 15:23, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Minor civility issue
[edit]Zigger, with regard to Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2009 May 5#Wikipedia:CUEGLOSS I have to comment that I feel it was distinctly incivil to label Fuhghettaboutit's creation of the CUEGLOSS redirect as being a form of "disruption" (your term). An accusation of disruptive editing is, by its very nature and definition, an accusation of bad faith editing, which is a strong charge to bring against a long-standing productive and constructive editor, and a well-respected admin. While the CUEGLOSS redir at issue was deleted, it was done so on other grounds. I don't mean to create a huge argument (not like anyone would notice here, as this appears only at the talk page of the RfD log of the day in question and your talk page). PS: Your response to my defense of the separate WP:CUEGLOSS redirect, which was kept, isn't very, well, responsive. The fact that various browsers exist with various features, does not mean that any particular editor is bound by WP policy to use one of them. Random side arguments like that are completely off-topic in XfD discussions. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 00:47, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Sydney Meetup
[edit]I think you may have been notified by email, but I thought it was worth my dropping in a note anywhoo, to let you know that Sydney Wikipedians are having a meetup this coming Tuesday, the 4th August. As you'll see on that page, we have two folk flying in from the Wikimedia Foundation who will be attending, and we have a great crowd of wiki types signed up to come along.
If you've never been to a meetup before, this wouldn't be a bad one to kick off with (we're all very friendly, interesting, and great looking folk ;-), and if you have, well come along again, why don't ya! If you've any questions you can flick the aussie mailing list an email on wikimediaau-l@lists.wikimedia.org aussie mailing list, or drop me a note on my talk page. Hope to see some of you there!
ps. If you've already signed up, and received an email, and a phone call, and a door knock, and are getting a bit frustrated with constant advances from enthusiastic australian wiki types, then I'm told you can print this message, and bring it along to use as a 'free beer' voucher, redeemable by our esteemed Vice-President of WMAU on the night...... ;-) Privatemusings (talk) 22:06, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Victorian Architecture
[edit]Hi Zigger! An article you have been concerned with has many issues and urgently needs improving. If you can help with these issues please see Talk:Victorian architecture, address the different points if you can, and leave any comments there.
Hi all,
It's meetup time again in Sydney - hopefully you'll be able to come along for friendly chat and drinks about all things wiki - topics will no doubt include the Chapter - perhaps with planning for the upcoming AGM, the general state of wiki-play, and the traditional candle lighting to encourage the mythical flagged-revisions extension to make its way on to the wiki. At this point, I usually mention that sitting wiki arbitrators are compelled to buy everyone a drink, but one of our number has taken a rather extreme route in avoiding this duty - if you have no idea what I'm talking about then you're probably busy writing and maintaining articles - but come along anyways on the 21st October, from 18.30 til late, to find out :-) cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 21:32, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Zigger! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 331 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Sunflare skylab4 big.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Sunflare skylab4 big.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Invitation to Sydney editathon - Saturday 23rd November
[edit]There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on Saturday 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.
As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! (Sorry if you've received this message before - I did a quick check but didn't see it.) 99of9 (talk) 10:39, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Your admin status
[edit]Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.
You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on yiwiktionary, where you are an administrator. Since yiwiktionary does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.
If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.
We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact us on m:Stewards' noticeboard.

Proposed deletion of CHAIN (programming language)
[edit]The article CHAIN (programming language) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No sources, no evidence of notability.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Keφr 18:55, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Reviewer granted
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.
Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay
[edit]Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
