No Daltanius Reference?
[edit]I have read that the original Voltron lineup was suppossed to be Daltanius, Dairugger, then Albeg... the gladiator one, but they screwed up and sent the wrong "one with the lion" to World Events (lucky mistake). However, I remember the commercial teaser for Voltron and they showed Daltanius, Dairugger, and GoLion (and I just found it on youtube). But the toys were GoLion, Dairugger and the Gladiators, so there were 3 different possible lineups (at least). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.160.35.117 (talk) 11:09, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Sven question
[edit]he dies in the original Japanese...but then how does he pilot it 1 more time in a later episode? They would have had to recon the previous plot. And I'm pretty sure I remember Sven in the 3D Voltron show (I miss that show). Did they pull an Ultimate Muscle and decide to stay with the USA plot instead of the Japanese plot? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.94.57.184 (talk) 00:54, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- If you mean the second season then the animators had to create a new scene. If you can tell me the episode name you're talking about post it here. The second season was never broadcast in Japan. --VoL†ro/\/Force 01:07, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
In the original GoLion series in Japan, Sven dies and it's his twin brother who comes back later on in the series. Because of programing regulations and censors, World Events Productions changed Sven's death scene to him merely being injured. Later on in the series, the twin brother is changed to Sven and the story reveals that he was on Planet Doom after recovering from his "near fatal" injury. Sven never made an appearance in V3D. --KiethBlackLion
- Sho was Takashi's younger brother, not a twin. Angel the Techrat (talk) 03:46, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
The Voltron name
[edit]If Voltron's REAL name is GOLION, then where did Voltron got it's name?
Was it from, VOLTES V????? -A Voltes V fan
Voltron is definitely a copy of Voltes Vin many aspects;
The 5-man team (Space Explorers in Voltron vs Young Earth Defense Agents in Voltes V.)
A multi-funtioning combination machine/robot craft. (Voltron as Lion Robots and Voltes V as Super Earth defense space ships.)
And then, the VOLT in Voltes V's name.
(They should have called Golion "Liontron" if they do not intend to "borrow" Voltes V's name.)
- Mark "Hentai" Jimenez
Hachi machi! I had my doubts at first, but after looking at the Wiki entry, there can be no denying it... Voltron really is a derivative of Voltes V. Even the characters match up almos perfectly. It's funny how much of this behind-the-scenes information you miss when you're just a kid, especially in the pre-Internet, pre-otaku 1980's. --M.Neko 11:22, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm clear thing up, Voltron did not ripoff the name Voltes V. Vol in Voltron is a abbreviation for volume. tron is a suffix to denote complex scienific insturment. (mich (talk) 16:35, 29 July 2009 (UTC))
Red vs Blue quote
[edit]I removed the bolded part of this piece of information, because it seemed pretty tangentially related to the main topic, especially for something in the introductory paragraph:
Voltron was also mentioned in episode three of the web series red vs blue, in that episode the character Church asks his teammate Tucker what he would do with two chicks to which Tucker responds "Church women are like voltron the more you hook up the better it gets".
Esk 3 July 2005 20:25 (UTC)
- The quote appears in both "TV" and "Miscellaneous". One or the other should be chosen. --711groove 16:22, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Outfit colors and lion colors
[edit]Is it just me or didn't the guy in red pilot a black lion and the guy in black piloted a red lion?
- Keith, the pilot of Black Lion, wore red.
- Lance, the pilot of Red Lion, wore blue.
- Pidge, the pilot of Green Lion, wore green, and was the only full color-match.
- Sven, the first pilot of Blue Lion, is the one who wore black.
- Allura, the pilot of Blue Lion after episode 6, wore pink.
- Hunk, the pilot of Yellow Lion, wore orange.
- The uniform colors were completely random, with the exception of the traditional "leader in red" and "girl in pink", and not related to the Lion they piloted. Angel the Techrat 18:24, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
This is the list of characters from the first season of Voltron:
- Shiro, the pilot of Black Lion, wore black.
- Lance, the pilot of Blue Lion, wore blue.
- Pidge, the pilot of Green Lion, wore green, and was the only full color-match.
- Kieth, the pilot of Red Lion, wore red.
- Hunk, the pilot of Yellow Lion, wore orange.
So no the uniforms were not random. after Shiro vanished during thier battle with ZarKon, they needed to choose a new pilot to replace Shiro in the second season. That's when the colors didn't match-up any longer — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:243:1981:35E0:61EF:C31:239F:2C (talk) 15:47, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
Character Names
[edit]I find different American surnames for the Voltron characters in several websites. In Wikipedia is also not different. So which ones are the correct ones? The Japanese names are already correct, so we don't have to edit it, but I'm confused with the American ones. I got this names from various websites:
- Commander Keith Noel
- Lance Hollings
- Sven Byorn
- Malcom Cavish "Hunk"
- Princess Allura Tiel Osie'
- Patrick Grambling "Pidge"
- Coran Sile
- Prince Lotor Di'el
- King Zarkon Di'el
- Hagger
Can anyone verify this? Thanks HoneyBee 11:33, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
Reply : There have never been official names released or aknowledged by World Events Productions. The "surnames" that you find on the net are made up ones by Fanfiction authors. - You need to READ MORE CAREFULLY. It says Sven WAS second in command, and all details of this are in the PAST TENSE. Then he was injured and retired to another planet. Allura replaced him as a pilot, and it's not too much of a brain burner to figure out that Lance replaced him as second in command. Canonblack 12:12, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

- There is an article attached to this talk page, you might try reading it. It very specifically states that an untitled live action film project is in development. Canonblack 12:15, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
I've heard something about Pharrell Williams being involved with the movie. He was being interviewed on Australian TV a few weeks back, and he was asked about the Voltron movie, he confirmed it. I think he is a producer for the film, and i think he will be doing the music also. any info will be cool, if anyone has it. --Adam aka. Cho03 16:26, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
The original Voltron movie script was written by Justin Marks. However, due to fan unrest and the fact that the script barely had any resemblance to Voltron and was more or less a rehash of prior sci-fi/disaster movies, the script is going to be re-written by the creator of the show Criminal Minds. A full review of the script can be found at http://www.geocities.com/kiethblacklion/Scriptreview.html It use to contain spoilers, but since the script is being re-written, there's no telling how much of the original script will get used. Sound effects
[edit]I'm hesitant to do so, but I'm removing the parenthetical comments on sound effects added to the introductory section on August 14, 2006. The meaning is unclear, the analysis is based on conjecture, and if the content should be included at all, it belongs in the "Differences" section. Relating the toys to the storyline?
[edit]It seems very likely to me that the numbers have nothing at all to do with the storylines. Also, does anybody have release and rerelease dates for the toys? Growing up, I don't know whether it was because of my age, or because of my parent's situation that I first started watching the vehicle Voltron series with no knowledge of the Lion Voltron series, but when I wanted the Voltron toys, which an aunt bought each group for me and my two younger siblings, I don't remember the Lion toys being around at that time either. Hackwrench 22:32, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Thinking about it some more, if there was an original toy release for the Lions, the numbering may have come about due to a successful rerelease after am unsuccessful first release. Hackwrench 02:48, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- Dillards use to sell strange Voltron toys until 1988 I think with names like Voltron III and Voltron IV, etc. These toys were expensive. This article addresses nothing about the tons and tons of Voltron toys that have been made. Japanimation station (talk) 15:37, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Earth was devastated by nuclear war?

A nuclear war between who? Between Earth and Galra, or between two nations on Earth? 69.69.72.198 01:59, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

The DVD released isn't the japanese version
[edit]"Collection One: Blue Lion, featuring the first fifteen episodes of the series, is scheduled for wide release on September 26, 2006, though it was released early in the US under special agreement by some major retail chains on September 12, 2006. [1]"
From what I read on amazon.com from both the description and the user comments, this isn't the Japanese version. It's just the american version of Voltron. http://www.amazon.com/Voltron-Defender-Universe-Colletion-One/dp/B000FUTV64/sr=8-1/qid=1159887879/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-5088939-7040868?ie=UTF8&s=dvd Inforazer 15:09, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Correct. The article is about the American series, so the line you quoted wasn't inappropriate, but it may have been poorly worded (and was out of date). I've updated and clarified it. -- Fru1tbat 15:58, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I also clarified the information even further to help avoid confusion. Inforazer 17:08, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if the term "American Voltron" is necessary (as I understand it, "Voltron" is specific to the American version). In addition, "Collection One: Blue Lion" refers to the first volume only, not the entire series, as the current text makes it sound. Maybe it's the first sentence that's throwing you off. I've rewritten again to completely separate the two sets of releases. Note: Since it's hard to find two websites that agree on the exact name of the volumes, I've dispensed with the "Collection One: Blue Lion"-style names and simplified it to just "Volume 1" and "Volume 2" for consistency and accuracy. -- Fru1tbat 18:09, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Ok, in Australia, the 20th anniversary editions of Voltron have been out since late 2005, and come in 5 sets for each of the lion force and vechicle force series from the early 80's. These have been released by madman and the AV channel. Shouldn't these be mentioned in the dvd sections of the article, as these complete collections seem to predate the collections talked about in the article. -- lturner80

No untitled voltron movie
[edit]Though there might be a Volton movie coming out the trailer shown before the transformers movie is not it.It is a monster movie with the working title of Cloverfield.Produced by JJ Abrams.User:Parralax
yes but there is quite possibly some truth. threw the line someone screams in the street is "its a lion. Its huge" and it makes sense to put it infront of transformers . but this is still speculation. so i would not cross it out until we have a direct comment from someone working on the film that its not. (JW)
- Actually, the line is "It's alive! It's huge!". It was a trailer before transformers based on the high number of people expected to see that movie. There's nothing to back up it's a Voltron movie. It's speculation and doesn't belong in the article. CPitt76 01:11, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Voltron Combine Sequence
[edit]Activate: Interlock
Dyna Therms: Connected
Infracells: Up
Mega Thrusters: Are Go
"Let's Go Voltron Force!" (Sequence Confirmation?)
Form Feet and Legs
Form Arms and Body/Torso
And "I'll" (Black Lion) form the Head.
Edgeix 03:17, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
TODO: What exactly does interlock, dyna-therms and the infracells do?
[edit]Pure OR speculation on my part, but I'm a Otaku with ranks in Star Trek Technobabble and a healthy dose of bullshit...
- Activating Interlocks: This one is easy. Sends the command to open up the "tab A's" and "slot B's" that the other lions connect into. Presumably you would want them normally closed to seal out the vacuum of space, and protect them from interstellar debris.
- Dynotherms Connected: Since dyna comes from the Greek dynamis meaning "power;" and therme is Greek for "heat;" I would conclude that it has something to do with heat transfer, possibly collecting generated heat and converting it back into power. Perhaps this means the engines tend to overheat during the combination sequence, and this is a safety feature.
- Infracells Up: Since infra is Latin for "below", up would be opposite. Perhaps this means that the cells are stowed away at this command, maybe because the lion is switching over from a battery cell to being powered by the Megathrusters.
- Megathrusters Are Go: This would therefore be the command to fire the megathrusters, and make the necessary maneuvers to form Voltron
So basically, it's a matter of opening up the plugs for the other lions to connect to, switch from Lion battery power to Robot megathrusters, and combine.
Or it could just be three minutes of filler that the animators didn't have to write for each episode... -- RoninBK T C 08:06, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Succession to Arus throne
[edit]With the death of King Alfor, one would've excepted his only child should've become Queen-regnant Allura. Oddly enough, Allura has an aunt who's a Queen-regnant - I know it's just a cartoon. GoodDay (talk) 22:01, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- It would seem that the use of Queen regnant to refer to her aunt is likely inappropriate. If I understand correctly, the sibling of a reigning monarch is still referred to as Prince/Princess. (a case could be made to refer to her as Princess Royal). It's also possible that she was perhaps queen of a neighboring monarchy, seeing as how royal families have a tendency to intermarry. -- RoninBK T C 23:28, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- Allura could still be a princess if she were a minor, which is believable considering how Coran and Nanny treat her. You'd think she'd have been an adult by the time of V-3D, though. Perhaps the age of majority on Arus is rather high...say, 25? --12.106.209.61 (talk) 20:51, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Better cites needed for this "Far/near/middle universe" stuff
[edit]The link given for the only real cite for these terms being used now seems to lead to something else after a revamp of voltron.com and without any sort of official source it comes off as some sort of fanwank or OR or something along those lines, but not appropriate for the article in any event. The shows never used near/far to distinguish the two (and the middle one wasn't even part of the show) and the toys used numbers to distinguish them, not near/middle/far. So where do these terms come from and how are they appropriate for the article?76.226.112.55 (talk) 20:14, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

This article's history is baffling...
[edit]So first, this article was about the Voltron franchise as a whole... Then, it became about the Voltron character ... Then, it became about the first series in the franchise (which it is today). What is going on? I'm currently in the process of trying to create a series article for the Voltron franchise, but at this point, I'm not sure if it's already here in this history and if the information about the first series should be moved elsewhere or what. I mean, I'll figure it out eventually, but any input is quite welcome. Steel1943 (talk) 21:46, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
- A franchise article could probably use a lot from this one, but would there be too much overlap? Much of the franchise content here relates to spinoffs and adaptations of the original series, so it isn't out of place here. As for more content on the broader franchise in this article's history, I'm not sure how far back you'd have to look. I made some larger edits on the article a couple years ago, but the versions before my edits aren't significantly different in focus, at least from a quick look. --Fru1tbat (talk) 18:48, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Fru1tbat: (over 10 months later) Actually, there are many portions of information in this article that could be removed to create a franchise article. In fact, at the least, the section at Voltron#Subsequent projects belongs in a franchise article, and not this one. I remember when I was looking at this article's edit history last year, I noticed several revisions that contained information that is no longer in this article; most of that information could be used to create a franchise article, and possibly even a character article. (The character article may be a stretch, but a substantial amount of content for a franchise article is definitely present in the edit history.) Steel1943 (talk) 06:14, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Splitting Voltron into seperate articles
[edit]I believe that this article should be split into Voltron (1984 TV series) as this article seems to talk about Voltron as franchise rather than the 1984 cartoon. What are other people's opinion on the subject? Dwanyewest (talk) 21:37, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Dwanyewest: Voltron (1984 TV series) should have its own article but only if there is sufficient information. As the article currently stands now (as of this writing) there are barely any sources to support the article. The episode and character sections are all blank and the "Differences from the original version" seem to be WP:ORIGINAL and WP:UNDUE. If you can expand it with more information, especially with reception independent of the Voltron franchise, then it would best. lullabying (talk) 18:11, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
