Visual arts categories
[edit]Clubmarx 02:19, Nov 26, 2004 (UTC) I'd like the change the Visual arts page and category. I've been looking around to see how others categorize arts content, and I came up with this. It doesn't include everything. Then, it would make sense to - merge Visual arts and design into Visual arts and Design - Visual arts and design redirect to Visual arts
The rest outside Visual arts is for context - that is my draft as well. As for Fine arts, I think that usually refers to Performing arts, sculpture, and visual arts (excluding decorative arts). So there isn't a category fine arts, but the page would probably go under just Arts.
I know there's been some changes as discussed on Category talk:Art but not sure what's the current status.
- Arts
- Artists
- Art history
- Art materials
- Art styles, periods, and movements
- Architecture ...
- Performing arts
- Acrobatics
- Acting
- Choreography
- Dance
- Music
- Opera
- Puppetry
- Singing
- Storytelling
- Theater
- Sculpture (I don't think dance is part of plastic arts, so that just leaves sculpture.)
- Visual arts
- Art Shows & Exhibitions
- Cinema
- Decorative arts (this is different that arts & crafts - wikipedia just doesn't have much content on these)
- Arts & Crafts
- Pottery
- Textile art ....
- Design
- Fashion design
- Graphic design
- Industrial design
- Interior design
- Drawing
- Illustration
- Comics ... (comics are illustrations, but in the interests of keeping the heirarchy pretty flat)
- Painting
- Photography
- Printmaking
Art categories
[edit]A page is created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Visual arts/Art categories to plan art categories. Previous discussions are at Category talk:Art, Category talk:Visual arts and Category talk:Artists (there are likely more that I haven't found). The current schema on Wikipedia:WikiProject Visual arts/Art categories combines much of what is in previous discussions. --sparkit (talk) 16:00, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
merge
[edit]Is anyone up for merging the Visual arts category back into the Art category? -->>sparkit|TALK<< 03:40, July 16, 2005 (UTC)
Printmaking should be a sub-category not just a page
[edit]Johnbod 05:01, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- There already is a Category:Printmaking. Clubmarx 07:41, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- I know; i've added many articles to it. Are we talking about the same thing? I mean it shows here as a page only, when it should be a sub-category like other main technique groups Johnbod 02:35, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Main topic classifications
[edit]Is there a deep reason for Category:Visual arts to be a Main topic classification when it necessarily belongs to Category:Arts? Is there violent objection to removing it from Category:Main topic classifications? I am not attempting to re-open the May 2006 proposal to merge this category into Arts, which I would've opposed if I'd been on Wiki. back then. But it's just sloppy to have Visual arts in Arts and have them both in Main topic classifications. — Robert Greer 20:07, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
no objection
[edit]The above was posted over a month ago and no comment has been made; I shall remove Category:Visual arts from Main topic classification if there is no objection in the next 48 hours. — Robert Greer 03:04, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
