- 1892 – The last broad gauge train runs on the Great Western Railway mainline out of London's Paddington station.
- 1913 – Henry Morrison Flagler, visionary and builder of the Florida East Coast Railway, dies (b. 1830).
- 1970 – The Southern Pacific Railroad (SP) relinquishes its interest in 44-mile (71 km) Tijuana and Tecate Railway Company to Mexico's national railway, Ferrocarril Sonora Baja California, S.A. de C.V.
- 1984 – The Metrorail (pictured) opens in Miami, Florida. There is free service from Dadeland South to Overtown/Arena to entice residents to ride.
